In the music business, there are a lot of first times. For Sound Traveler, I remember the first time we played in public, the first time we played out of town, and the first time we played at a folk festival in Florida. For many events there is a second time, a third time, and so on. But that first time is always unique.
Questions arise. Will the people like what we’re doing? What kind of songs will be perfect for the venue? How can we perform in such a way that we will be asked back? How can we maximize the joy that we experience in presenting what we have to offer? Questions, questions, questions – and the answers only come in time.
This Friday night we will have our third engagement on The Indian River Queen. We have a pretty good idea of what to expect there. We will set up on the second deck, play a wide variety of music, and be treated to a panoramic view of the scenic Indian River as we interact with a group of people that will make us feel like part of the family.
Then on Saturday we have a brand-new venue for us – The River Roost on the Merritt Island Causeway. We’ve met people who work there, and we’ve spent some time there as customers. On Saturday, however, we will be the entertainment. We’ve played a number of similar establishments, but never that one. What will make the experience better for us is to see some friends in the audience, people who already have an idea of our music and who like it. And those who have seen us before will never have seen us in this new environment. You can expect to see and hear something you’ve never heard from us before. Patty and I can usually produce some surprises!
If you need an excuse, it’s Labor Day weekend, and the River Roost is a good place to spend one night of it. You will enjoy it, and Sound Traveler will be ever so grateful to share the evening with you. – Bob Tatum

That is such a sad and soulful song. It does have certain parallels in my life to which I can relate. I am not too sure if I really wanted to be reminded but was none the less. You do have a talent for bringing out life’s truths be they happy or painful.
